The Longwood Gardens High School Summer Internship Program is an eight-week experience available to tenth- and eleventh-graders enrolled in Horticulture Programs in the region.
The internship program begins in late June and ends in August. The interns work five days a week with other students and Longwood staff members to learn gardening techniques, and to share responsibilities in various areas of public horticulture. The interns are paid an hourly rate for the time they work. Students work in all safe weather conditions including light rain, hot, and cold temperatures, etc. There are opportunities through the week for the interns to attend lectures and/or field trips to other area gardens.
Students rotate throughout the garden and experience indoor and outdoor horticulture. The interns work closely with Longwood employees and with other students.
A career interest in horticulture and enrollment in horticulture classes offered by the student’s high school are prerequisites.
While at Longwood Gardens, students are expected to obey safety policies, exhibit a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn, and have good attendance.
