WRITING & LITERATURE IN THE GARDEN

Nature Voice

Listen to and create poetry inspired by nature in this literary program that gives voice to student writing. Students will be introduced to a variety of poetic forms while exploring the gardens. Students record thoughts, feelings and words that capture the NatureVoice emerging from within.

K-2: Students go on a sensory walk observing the natural surroundings. They work together to create their own poems based on the sights and sounds of nature. The focus will be on Couplets and Acrostic Poetry.

3-5: Students explore the beauty of Longwood as they listen to some inspirational poems. Students will compose original pieces of poetry inspired by nature focusing on writing Limericks and Haiku.

6-8: Students focus on the natural surroundings in the garden to inspire the writing of original poetry. The students will be motivated to share their own insight while writing Two-Voice and Tanka poetry.
