Additional Fountains

Longwood has more fountains than any other garden in the United States. Don't miss the Eye of Water, Sylvan Fountain, Round Fountain and Square Fountain on your next visit to the Gardens.

Eye of Water

This modern water feature sits above a 90,000-gallon reservoir that supplies the Waterfall and Main Fountain Garden. An initial surge of 8,000 gallons per minute at 9:00 am drops back to a smooth flow of 5,000 gallons per minute for the rest of the day.

Noteworthy plants: redtwig Japanese maple (Acer palmatum), hinoki false cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa), weeping Higan cherry (Prunus subhirtella)

The Eye of Water runs from 9:00 am until closing from mid-April until mid-October.

Sylvan Fountain

The Sylvan Fountain at the east end of the Park, with one of its five jets shooting up 40 feet, was constructed by Mr. du Pont in 1925-27 and is powered from the Italian Water Garden pumphouse.

The Sylvan Fountain operates from 9:00 am until closing from mid-April until mid-October.

Round Fountain

The Round Fountain on the Flower Garden Walk was the first fountain installed at Longwood (in 1907). The fountain is surrounded by an ever-changing border of annual and perennial flowers, spring bulbs, shrubs and ornamental grasses.

The Round Fountain operates from 9:00 am until closing from mid-April until mid-October.

Square Fountain

This small water feature was built by Pierre du Pont in 1908 and served as a quiet reflection pool. Later, a fountain jet was added. The beds surrounding the pool are planted with spring bulbs and summer annuals.

The Square Fountain operates from 9:00 am until closing from mid-April until mid-October.
