Behind-the-Scenes Tour Leader
Function: Present information, answer questions, and interact with visitors during scheduled behind-the-scenes tours for Longwood visitors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive training and continue learning on topics to be scheduled as visitor programs
- Work with the Visitor Education Specialist and Intern to learn the history, significance, and facts concerning a particular Longwood area or horticultural function
- Present information in an informative, entertaining way to interact with visitors
- Answer questions concerning the designated horticultural topic, as well as related topics
- Answer questions concerning Longwood’s history and horticultural practices
- Be available to assist visitors with questions or concerns regarding their Longwood visit
Requirements/Expectations:
- Interest in and knowledge of horticulture, plants, and Longwood Gardens
- Interest in receiving and sharing information about, and continuing the learning process of a particular horticultural or Longwood related topic
- Interest in working with Longwood staff to increase knowledge of plants, horticulture, and Longwood Gardens
- Strong verbal skills and ability to interact comfortably with Longwood visitors of all ages
- Complete required orientation and training
- Follow Longwood Gardens' policies, procedures, and standards
- This volunteer position can be shared by more than one volunteer to maximize the experience for both the visitor and the volunteer
Time Required:
- 30 minutes to one-hour sessions
- Two to three times per month (depending on subject and season)
