Bindery/ Collection Assistant

Function: Protect books against wear and tear by reinforcing, repairing, and covering books and creating folders and boxes for serials and pamphlets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Repair damaged book covers, spines, or pages
  • Reinforce books, pamphlets, or serials
  • Create boxes or folders to protect items in the Library’s collection
  • Correctly label items with the title and call number
  • Change the SydneyPlus holding record
  • Reshelf finished items
  • Carry out other tasks as required under the direction of the Library Assistant

Requirements/Expectations:

  • Willingness to learn and work with the SydneyPlus Catalog and Holdings (this requires general PC knowledge)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Measuring and cutting accurately
  • Ability to visualize finished three-dimensional objects from flat components
  • Familiarity with Library of Congress Classification System
  • Ability to follow step by step instructions precisely
  • Complete required orientation and training
  • Follow Longwood Gardens' policies, procedures, and standards
  • Familiarity with the Library Procedures Manual

Time Required:

  • Four hours per week
