Bonsai Display

Supervisor: Section Gardener—East Conservatory

Department: Horticulture

Function: To help maintain the Bonsai Display and assist with ‘Expert on Duty’ visitor programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Trimming, wiring, and repotting Bonsai
  • Watering
  • Assist with training and styling of trees based on experience
  • Assist with ‘Expert on Duty’ visitor programs

Requirements/Expectations:

  • Good overall knowledge of and experience with Bonsai
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Willingness to work with other volunteers, students, and employees
  • Willingness and ability to interact with visitors
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs
  • Complete required orientation and training
  • Follow Longwood Gardens’ policies, procedures, and standards
  • Read the Volunteer Handbook and follow procedures therein
  • Purchase and wear safety shoes

Time Required:

  • Minimum of 1 day/week at a minimum of 3 hours
  • Work hours are between 7 AM and 3 PM
  • Work is seasonal; more time is available from March-June
