Carillon Attendant

Function:

Greet visitors that attend Carillon Concerts, help with seating and answer questions, and assist visitors as they enter and leave the Chimes Tower during scheduled open house tour sessions of the Chimes Tower Carillon following the Carillon Concert.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet visitors as they enter the seating area
  • Keep a count of the number of visitors attending the concert
  • Use resources to learn about the Chimes Tower, Carillon, Longwood Gardens and the artist to better answer visitor’s questions
  • Greet visitors as they prepare to enter the Chimes Tower for the open house tours
  • Monitor the number of visitors entering the Carillon area, allowing only 15-20 visitors upstairs at any one time
  • Assist visitors with questions or concerns regarding their Longwood visit

Requirements/Expectations:

  • Interest in interacting with people
  • Ability to interact comfortably with Longwood visitors of all ages
  • Interest in and/or some knowledge of Chimes Tower, Carillon, and Longwood Gardens (available on Longwood’s website at longwoodgardens.org)
  • Interest in working with Longwood staff to increase visitor’s enjoyment of concerts and behind-the-scenes tours
  • Complete required orientation and training
  • Follow Longwood Gardens' policies, procedures, and standards
  • This volunteer position will be shared by more than one volunteer to maximize the experience for both visitors and volunteers

Time Required:

  • Two to three hours per session
  • Carillon concerts are scheduled from April through September (mostly weekends, with an occasional weekday evening during the summer)
