Indoor Children's Garden Volunteer
Function:
The Indoor Children’s Garden Volunteers spend time within and near the Indoor Children’s Garden interacting with our youngest visitors and their families. These Volunteers engage young visitors and their families in simple, fun and creative activities to stimulate their curiosity & imaginations, share information with them and answer questions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interact with children and parents in the Children’s Garden and at the Curiosity Cart.
- Engage children in easily completed interactive activities including puppets, simple musical instruments, scavenger hunts, seed starting and other creative activities.
- Answer general questions from visitors about Longwood Gardens.
- Effectively use communication skills to limit destructive behavior and encourage safe, fun creative activity.
Requirements/Expectations:
- An enthusiastic and positive attitude.
- Attend regular training sessions as a Children’s Garden volunteer including training on specific children’s programs and interpretive training to increase your knowledge.
- Ability to stand and walk for two hours.
- Enjoy interacting with children specifically but also many different types and ages of people.
- Follow Longwood Gardens policies, procedures, and standards.
Time Required:
- A minimum of 4 hours per month consisting of two 2 hour shifts mornings or afternoons any day of the week. This position is not limited to a specific program, time or day.
