Christmas Display Volunteer Team

Function:
The Volunteer Christmas Display Team assists with the many activities involved with Longwood’s Christmas Display. As a part of this self-managed Volunteer Team, you will be working alongside Longwood staff and other Volunteers as you prepare lights and decorations for Longwood's Christmas Display. Individual tasks include packing, unpacking, organizing, installing, taking down, and monitoring and evaluating Christmas lights. You may also choose to be involved in creating individual decorations, including some of Longwood's most recognized decorations such as the Open Air Theater snowflakes, the Main Fountain Garden stars, and other unique decorations such as the daffodils, lilacs, etc. This team first organized in January 2007, then worked throughout the year to make a major contribution to the 2007-2008 Christmas display. The team works year around, as planning and preparation for Christmas never really stops at Longwood.

 
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive instruction and encouragement from Longwood staff and other Volunteers as you prepare lights and create decorations for Longwood's Christmas Display
  • communicate with the team leader to sign up for work days according to the schedule
  • work with and learn from others and sharing your skills for the benefit of the team


Requirements/Expectations:

  • An artistic or crafting experience interest or skill is helpful but not required
  • Be punctual and dependable
  • Complete a Volunteer Orientation session and participate in any of the team's training
    sessions.
  • Follow Longwood Gardens’ policies, procedures, and standards, which are explained and outlined during your meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator and the orientation session.

  • Time Required:
    A rewarding Longwood Volunteer experience will depend on your participation on a regular basis. This team usually works a minimum of 1 day a week when work is available. The preferred workday is Tuesday, 9 AM – 12 PM. At this time, most of the team members will be in attendance. Other days may be considered.
