The Curtis Institute of Music brings its remarkable young talents to Longwood Gardens throughout the spring for hourlong recitals. One of the world's great conservatories, Curtis trains the legends of tomorrow in a unique, intimate environment that has nurtured a long line of great performers, from Leonard Bernstein to the Guarneri Quartet to Hilary Hahn.
All recitals begin at 1:00 pm in The Ballroom.
Summer Hu, cello
Jungeun Kim, piano
Summer Hu, 18, from Potomac, Md., entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2007 and studies with Peter Wiley, cello of the Guarneri String Quartet. She has given recitals at the embassies of Finland and Switzerland through the Washington Performing Arts Society Embassy Adoption Program and at the Harman Center for the Arts in Washington, D.C., as a Feder Memorial String Competition award winner. Ms. Hu performs regularly on the Curtis Student Recital Series and also has participated in master classes with cellists Carter Brey, Gary Hoffman, Janos Starker, Jan Vogler, and Jian Wang.
Jungeun Kim began piano studies at age three and made her public debut at age eight. After winning a Presidential Prize in the Korean National Music Competition, she performed with the Korean National Philharmonic. Ms. Kim has performed as a recitalist and guest artist with orchestras and ensembles in the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, and the Far East, and she has appeared on CBS, CBC, Voice of America, and NPR broadcasts. She has been featured in the Philadelphia Orchestra's chamber music series and has collaborated with such distinguished artists as Sarah Chang, Ida Kavafian, Ruggiero Ricci, Aaron Rosand, Peter Wiley, Riccardo Chailly, James Depreist, Charles Dutoit, Kurt Masur, and Wolfgang Sawalish. She has been director of instrumental accompaniment and outside performances at Curtis since 2009.
Recitals are free with Gardens admission. First-come, first-served seating.
