Groundskeeper

Longwood Gardens has an opening for a full-time Groundskeeper. Candidate must be able to perform a full range of grounds and landscape maintenance duties, including all aspects of turf maintenance, tree and shrub planting, pruning, and leaf and snow removal. Candidate may be responsible for demonstrating and teaching students grounds maintenance skills. Some weekend and holiday work may be required. Must have a minimum of an Associate of Science degree in Turf Management, Landscape Maintenance or related degree, or two years experience in groundskeeping, golf course or estate maintenance. Must have a valid driver’s license, equipment operation skills, and be willing to obtain a Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicators license. 




Membership Manager

Longwood Gardens is seeking a Membership Manager. The Membership Manager is responsible for the overall program management for Longwood Gardens’ 48,000+ member households.  Leading the development and implementation of Membership strategies and meeting the goals as laid out in our strategic plan are significant areas of focus for this position.  Key strategies include the creation and delivery of new or improved membership benefits, levels, events and programs to increase member participation and retention, as well as enhance member experiences. The Membership Team consists of an Assistant Membership Manager, Membership Data Coordinator and Membership Assistant. The Membership team works very closely with the frontline Visitor Center team, who sells and processes thousands of memberships on an annual basis.

This individual will develop and administer the Membership fiscal year budget in a responsible manner and progress the five-year business plan, including revenue forecasting. This position requires the creation of annual action plans to meet objectives, as well as, working with our systems team to further develop reporting vehicles to communicate progress on a regular basis. 

The Membership Manager will collaborate with the Marketing Department on acquisition, retention and member communication efforts. This individual also ensures clear and regular communication and training to foster engagement of our internal guests, both frontline and back of house, about membership initiatives. The Manager shares intellectual capital and creates partnerships with external colleagues by actively participating in professional development and outreach at conferences and meetings. 

The Membership Manager is a member of the Guest Services Leadership Team, functions as a Manager on Duty for Longwood, and is active on several internal committees to represent the needs and ambitions of the Membership Program. Collaboration with the entire Guest Services and Marketing Departments, as well as, other departments to ensure alignment with Longwood’s goals and overall programming is essential. 

Preferred candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree or 5-10 years equivalent experience in a management position within the field of development/fundraising, preferably focused on Membership. Knowledge of membership and familiarity with marketing principals are a plus.  Knowledge of membership, ticketing or point of sale software, Microsoft and internet applications is required. The individual must have the ability to work holidays, evenings and weekends to meet the business needs of special events, programming and daily operations of Longwood. Excellent skills in guest services and resolutions required.




Natural Areas Caretaker

Longwood Gardens has an opening for a full-time Caretaker working in its Natural Lands Division of the Horticulture Department, helping to maintain Longwood’s natural resources in an ecologically sound manner.

Candidates must have a passion for natural land stewardship, and must be able to perform a full range of natural land management duties in a variety of terrain and weather conditions, including the planting of native trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants; managing invasive species using hand, equipment and herbicide techniques; using large equipment such as tractors, field mowers, skid steers, fork lifts and sprayers. Candidates may be asked to provide training and mentoring to students and volunteers on the best management practices required to maintain Longwood’s natural resources as outlined in Longwood’s Land Management Plan. Some weekend, evening and holiday work may be required.

Preferred candidates will have a two or four year degree in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife and/or Natural Resource Management, Horticulture, or related discipline. They will have good organizational and computer skills, the ability to communicate and work effectively with a broad range of people, and complete work in a timely manner. Must have a valid driver’s license, equipment operation skills, and be willing to obtain a Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator’s license, and Pennsylvania Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License.
