Idea Garden Annuals

Function:

Provide care and maintenance of the Idea Garden Annual Display and Example Garden

Duties:

• Mulch, water, fertilize, weed, stake, and dead head annual flowers as needed
• Assist with fruit and vegetable harvest in the Example Garden
• Perform winter pruning in the Example Garden
• Assist gardening staff with other work as needed

Requirements:

• Able to work independently
• Able to learn and become proficient in various pruning techniques
• Able to lift 50 pounds (bags of fertilizer)
• Able to work in full sun
• Able to stand and kneel for periods of time
• Complete required orientation and training
• Must follow Longwood Gardens' policies, procedures, and standards
• Able to accept direction and guidance from the work supervisor
• Punctual and dependable
• Purchase and wear safety shoes

Time Required:

• Minimum of 1 4-hour shift per week, year-round
• This position may be shared by more than one volunteer
