Insect Rearing and Husbandry

Function: 

Responsible for the care of Longwood's teaching colony of Australian Walking Sticks and maintaining research pest insect colonies. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Feeding colonies of pest species
• Maintenance of growth chambers
• Seeding of pest species onto research plants

Requirements/Expectations:

• Willingness to interact with visitors, students, and staff
• Willingness to handle insects is required
• Punctual and dependable
• Purchase and wear safety shoes
• Complete required orientation and training
• Follow Longwood Gardens' policies, procedures, and standards

Time Required:

• 2 hours twice a week, preferably on Mondays and Thursday
