Library Cataloger
Function: Create an accurate catalog record describing items in the collection and their location, using OCLC and SydneyPlus systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assign appropriate Library of Congress subject headings and call numbers
- Identify and compare appropriate descriptive and bibliographic information
- Follow cataloging instructions to ensure a hard copy of the catalog record
- Carry out other tasks as required under the direction of the Library Assistant
Requirements/Expectations:
- Ability to work independently and with the Acquisitions Librarian
- Understanding of the Library of Congress Classification System
- Familiarity with call numbers
- General PC knowledge
- Willingness to learn the SydneyPlus Catalog and Holdings
- Attention to detail
- Familiarity with OCLC and how to use the OCLC catalog for original and copycat cataloging
- Complete required orientation and training
- Follow Longwood Gardens policies, procedures, and standards
- Familiarity with the Longwood Library Procedures Manual
Time Required:
- Four hours per week
- This position may be held by more than one volunteer
