Orchid Display Assistant

Function: Assist with the repotting of orchids, help with behind-the-scenes tours, and participate in orchid related demonstrations and classes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Repot orchids
  • Lead and/or assist with behind-the-scenes tours of the orchid collection
  • Present and/or assist with orchid related demonstrations and classes
  • Keep records as needed
  • Become familiar with Longwood’s orchid collection

Requirements/Expectations:

  • Good overall knowledge of orchids
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to learn and be proficient in orchid potting, and to learn the collection
  • Good record keeping skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to lead guided tours and present workshops and classes
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Complete required orientation and training
  • Accept and follow direction and guidance of supervisor
  • Be punctual and dependable
  • Follow Longwood Gardens’ policies, procedures, and standards
  • Purchase and wear safety shoes.

Time Required:

  • 4 hours/day, 2-3 days/week; 40 hours/month
