The International Ornamental Horticulture Intern works through various rotations within horticulture including, but not limited to Horticultural Research, Greenhouse Production, Indoor and Outdoor Display. This unique one-year opportunity provides a rotational experience meant to maximize exposure to horticulture in a public garden.
The Horticulture Department staff works with each intern to develop a one-year plan that addresses and serves individual student interests and career goals. Interns will spend several months in each of the four horticultural areas, while also carrying out specific long-term projects based on the needs of the department and the intern’s career interests. Areas of focus may lie outside of the four rotation areas and include Arboriculture, Curatorial records, Groundskeeping, Nursery Management, Perimeter, or Integrated Pest Management.
Opportunities for professional development, including a stipend for attendance at one national conference are available. The successful candidate is a self-motivated, collaborative, and passionate individual looking for a dynamic yearlong experience in a world class horticultural environment.
