Plant Collection Assistant

Function:

Collect plant material for botanical illustration classes

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Arrive prior to class to have time to collect potted and cut plants for students to draw or paint
• Communicate with instructor and students about desired plants
• Work with horticulture staff to select plants from behind-the-scenes production facilities
• Collect and label plants and place in classroom

Requirements/Expectations:

• Ability to work independently and solve problems
• Ability to effectively communicate with instructors and class attendees
• Ability to lift 20 pounds
• Ability to walk at a moderate pace for collecting, and to walk up stairs
• Complete required orientation and training
• Follow Longwood Gardens’ policies, procedures, and standards
• Accept direction and guidance of supervisor
• Be punctual and dependable
• Purchase safety shoes

Time Required:

• Minimum of 1-1 ½ hours once per week (usually 7-8:30 AM) for 8-9 consecutive weeks per brochure period (December-May and June-November)
