Summer Camp Programs

Photojournalism: Longwood Up Close

July 16–20; 9:00 am–2:00 pm
For children ages 11–15
Price: $180/Members; $200/non-Members
Location: Catalpa Classroom, and in and around the Gardens—rain or shine
Please dress appropriately, no flip flops, hats and sunscreen suggested
Lunch: Please bring a brown bag lunch, no thermoses

Limited to 15 students

Campers will explore Longwood’s different ecosystems while journaling the wonders of nature through digital photography (cameras provided). Longwood’s experts will highlight different ecological areas within the Gardens, while campers capture amazing images. Campers will create digital stories with a laptop (provided) using Photo Story 3. They will also have an opportunity to have fun with some hands-on, garden-based projects in this week long camp.

Longwood’s experts will highlight different ecological areas within the Gardens, while campers capture amazing images. Each camper will create an iMovie with the iPad 2 and have an opportunity to complete some hands-on, garden-based projects in this week long camp. Students must provide their own iPad2 for this camp.

Zooming in on Nature: Digital Photography

August 6–10; 9:00 am–12:00 pm
For High School Students
Price: $130/Members; $150/non-Members  
Location: Catalpa Classroom, and in and around the Gardens—rain or shine
Please dress appropriately, no flip flops, hats and sunscreen suggested
Lunch: Please bring a brown bag lunch, no thermoses
Limited to 15 students

Aspiring photographers will learn the key elements of digital photography while taking photographs that convey the magnificent gardens of Longwood. Students will develop skills to capture and communicate nature’s beauty in this one week camp experience. No equipment necessary. Digital cameras will be provided for the week-long camp experience, but students are welcome to bring their own.

You will receive an acknowledgement by mail or email confirming your registration. This letter is your child's admission into the camp. Please bring it with you to on the first day of camp.

Summer Writing and Reading Programs

In partnership with the Pennsylvania Writing and Literature Project of West Chester University

Meet Me in the Tree House

July 16–20; 9:00 am–12:00 pm
For children who have completed grades 1 or 2

Price: $225 before June 8; $240 after June 8

Join us for an adventure inspired by Nature's Castles, Longwood's magnificent tree houses. Students explore reading and writing in this fabulous garden setting with instructors Patty Koller and Andi Ries.

What's the Buzz?

July 23–27; 9:00 am–12:00 pm
For children who have completed grades 3 or 4
Price: $225 before June 8; $240 after June 8

Come discover the cool insects and plants at Longwood Gardens with instructors Patty Koller and Andi Reis. Take daily excursions into the Gardens and use your discoveries as inspiration for reading and writing. Explore multiple genres of writing and polish one or more of your written pieces for publication.
