Visitor Center

Function:

Assist gardening staff in the maintenance of the gardens at Longwood's Visitor Center

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plant, prune, mulch, water, and deadhead plants as needed
• Clean walks and entrance
• Divide herbaceous plants
• Stake plants as required
• Maintain containerized plant material
• Repot various plant material
• Assist staff with other work as needed
• Assist with seasonal display changes

Requirements/Expectations:

• Work can be physically demanding
• Must be able to lift some weight
• Must be able to kneel for periods of time
• Must be able to tolerate and work under fluctuating environmental conditions
• The ability to operate a motorized vehicle 
• Complete required orientation and training
• Follow Longwood Gardens’ policies, procedures and standards
• Able to accept direction and guidance from work supervisor
• Punctual and dependable
• Purchase and wear safety shoes

Time Required:

• Minimum commitment of one-half to one full day per week
• Work is usually seasonal - March through October
