Library Research - Getting Started

Here are some tips to get you started on researching a topic in the library.


Find books and theses on your subject

  • Do a simple search by keyword or subject in the library catalog
  • Browse by call number in the catalog, or by looking at the library shelves (ask librarian for help finding subject-specific call number areas)


Search databases for articles and other information pertaining to your topic


Look at bibliographies listed at the end of the books and articles you've found for sources the author used.


Use the Reference Collection for basic encyclopedic information as well as indices.
