Longwood is a display garden promoting the art and enjoyment of horticulture for the public, and the Gardens' Display and Design teams play an integral role in that mission by developing the Gardens' eight horticultural displays throughout the year. Gardeners work with Production staff to ensure that our plants are grown and displayed in the best possible fashion in our frequently changing conservatories and outdoor gardens. The end result showcases the combination of the art and science of horticulture!
Seasonal displays are often begun a year or more before they are seen by the public. Longwood's Display Specialist selects plants for the designs from information gathered by staff from the Display, Research and Production, and Integrated Pest Management departments.
For special displays utilizing custom structures, Longwood designers often work with our in-house craftspeople, including metal fabricators, carpenters, plumbers, and masons.
Our displays are constantly evaluated for ways to improve or enhance the visitor experience, and are made possible through the efforts of our Research and Production, Groundskeeping, Arboriculture, and Integrated Pest Management staff members.
